This short story delves into themes of grief, loss, and aging as I cope with the death of my 18-year-old dog, Doda. I both wrote and illustrated the book, making it a personal undertaking that enabled me to process my emotions and create something deeply meaningful from my experience.
The story is structured around a combination of real-time events and memories, with different illustration styles to visually distinguish between them. I utilize a visual motif of a dog silhouette in the window to tie together the front and back covers of the book. This project showcases my visual storytelling techniques to convey personal emotions and experiences.

To bring this project to life, I printed, trimmed, hole punched, and bound three prototypes of the book using wire-o binding.
I applied for the Spring 2023 Anderson Publishing Grant to help cover direct production costs associated with the publication of a student-designed project. The Anderson provides up to $300 per project and will select one publication project each semester through a juried, online proposal process. I'm excited to hear back from them on March 27th.
